  • Bitchin' Content Strategies for Niche Sites and Exploding Listener Downloads for

23 APR 2014 · In the post by Jason Van Orden from Internet Business Mastery, they shared "How We Boost Listener Downloads by Over 60%" by re-purposing their blog content.  They were able to determine that their new audio blog format got 60-100% more downloads than their feature podcast and that the audio blog had ten times more downloads that the original blog post had in unique visits.  Explosive!  Make sure to listen next week for our interview with Jeremy Frandsen, the co-host of the Internet Business Mastery podcasts. In "How To: Create a Content Strategy For Your Niche Site" Radhika Basuthakur gave some great tips for generating continuous content for your sites.  This is a really great post that has tons of great info.  In particular, she writes about identifying your target demographic--- imagining them as an actual person.  We've seen this strategy written about before and it definitely has it's merits.   While it may seem a bit odd to create a fake person who personifies your demographic, it makes perfect sense when you think about it.  It's much easier to ask yourself "Would Joe like this" vs. "Would my audience like this?".   It just makes everything more manageable and easier to wrap your head around. She also recommends creating a Content Calendar. That alone is enough of a reason to read this post.  Creating a calendar makes it easier to achieve your content goals and make sure you've got stuff in the hopper in advance.  Organization, as usual, is key!   In the News: We mentioned a recent post by Barry Schwartz on "Google Slaps Another Guest Blog Network: PostJoint" after claims that their guest blog network has "zero footprints". From Performance Marketing Insider we shared the post by Michael Levanduski on "How to Use JetPack by WordPress to Quickly Share Content" We also talked about how "Apple’s latest patent prevents you from texting while driving".  This patent was filed way back in 2008 and just got approved the other day.   Sounds like a cool safety feature to have in the future if it ever gets developed. In Venturebeat's "For the first time, the majority of Americans are using smartphones — even seniors" we reported that it's finally happened: everyone AND their mom now has a smartphone.

  • Using Shady Widgets To Win at Google (Ep. 113)

16 APR 2014 · In case you live under a rock, US Airways accidently tweeted a very naughty picture the other day.  As a result we talked about "What to Do if You Actually Tweet Porn" from tricia.me     She has a great list of 10 things you can do if you're in the same situation.   I mean, sh** happens, right?   So make sure to book mark this LOL. A link to the buzzfeed article where you can see the actual tweet is here: US Airways Just Tweeted Out One Of The Most Graphic Things You’ve Ever Seen A Brand Tweet  Warning, it's pretty horrifying!! In "Dr. Houzz Reveals a Widget-Flawed Google Algorithm" Viperchill posts about another shady widget that's gaming Google.  The Dr. Houzz widget embeds a bunch of backlinks into their widget with some awesome anchor text that's letting them dominate Google SERPS.   This article (as usual) is very detailed.  So make sure you read it and you'll pick up some awesome shady SEO techniques!

  • Which Social Networks are Ideal for Marketers? (Ep. 112)

15 APR 2014 · Patricia Redsicker made a great post on some "New Research Shows Which Social Networks Ideal For Marketers" over at Social Media Examiner.  Great post on which platforms are most relevant to social media marketing right now.  Of course Facbeook wins when it comes to overall use, but you also need to account for visual ads on Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram and that YouTube is the #2 search engine! Wow. In "Facebook Tweaks News Feed Algorithm to Combat 'Spammy' Posts" we learned that FB has rolled out even more changes to the news feed.  The idea is to punish people using a link baiting strategy to game the system.  So should Viral Nova and its ilk kiss their butts goodbye?  We're not sure yet but if this algo change works as advertised, they're sure to see a dip in shares and FB traffic in general.   On top of that, the algorithm is also supposed to take into account content that links to spammy off-site web sites.  For example, if you're linking to your thin site chock full of re-purposed content and banners stuck in ever corner, you're going to suffer. In the news : "Search Was Largest Digital Channel In 2013 ($18.4B), Mobile Fastest Growing ($7.1B)" by Greg Sterling over at Search Engine Land.  So online advertising exceeded broadcast TV for the first time! That is hot!

  • 4 Ways You Need to Get Your Head Right (Ep. 110)

11 APR 2014 · In "4 Common Thinking Mistakes and How to Fix Them" Charles Ngo teaches you how to "get your head right". All 4 tips are interesting, but a big one is "Assumptions without Experience".   In his example he offers the tale of John, the hardworking affiliate who's a one-man-band of sorts.  John needs and want some employees to help him with his work but his assumptions about how everything will go wrong is preventing him from acting.   This is a good story, but this tip goes way beyond that.  Lots of people assume stuff without having any real experience.   Sure, intuition can be good *sometimes* but make sure you're honest with yourself when you don't truly know something.   Just like in advertising, sometimes you need to do a TEST. In the post by Lary Kim from Search Engine Land : "10 Surprising Facts About 'Keyword (Not Provided)' For Paid Search" dispelled the rumor that paid search query data was disappearing adn that third party tool providers would be slammed.  Don't worry guys, all the data is still there for paid search and it won't ever go away. The Heartbleed vulnerability is all over the internet and everyone is talking about it on the news, so it should be no surprise that you don't at least know about it by now.  We received notification via WordFence in an email and after additional research found a post by Victoria McNally from Geekosystem on how to "Test Servers for the Heartbleed Vulnerability With This Handy Browser Tool".  Change your passwords on all the major websites you visit, that is the best way to take care of the problem.  But you should know if the patch has been applied by using this tool.  If it is not updated, you will need to change the password after the vulnerabilities as fixed. • How to Get a 93% CTR Increase On Your Pricing Page (Ep. 109)

10 APR 2014 · In "93.71% Increase in Clickthroughs by A/B Testing Pricing Page" from Visual Website Optimizers blog, we learned how one company was able to make some extremely impressive gains on their pricing page's effectiveness.  The company is Lyyti.com a Finnish event management software company. Their old pricing page was lacking clarity and users were unable to figure out which plan option had which features.  They determined this by looking at their analytics and discovering that people were bouncing back and forth between the pricing page and the features page.  The solution?  Revamp the pricing page to use a nicer, easier to read layout that clearly defined what features are available in all plans.  That and adding better CTA buttons produced an amazing 93.71% increase in CTR.  Nice! Sarah Golinger from Hubspot had another great post on A/B testing called "How to Attract More Clicks to Your Blog Posts : 11 Revealing Title Tests" to help you make your blog post titles be more enticing.  It is important with all the sharing and promoting you will be doing with each blog post that you can maximize the clicks through to the actual content. We also shared a few news topics related to internet marketing regarding the new "Wordpress 3.9 Comng April 16 : Here's What's New" by Matt Southern from Search Engine Journal and also "Matt Cutts: Google Penalizes Seven Link Network In Japan" by our good friend Barry Schwartz over at Search Engine Roundtable.

  • 4 Psychological Copywriting Tactics To Bend Them To Your Will (Ep. 108)

9 APR 2014 · David Ford from Aff Playbook Forum stopped by and shared a great forum post titled "Copywriting for Affiliates [Part 2] Psychological Tactics"   (Note, that link is to a private forum so you need to be a member to see it in all it's glory!). He covered some really interesting stuff such as "Using Embedded Commands" and "Presuppositions".  These are tried and true copywriting techniques that you'd do well to master and remember. An example of "Using Embedded Commands" would be: "I wonder how fast you'll take advantage of this offer?"    The embedded command here is "you are going to take advantage of this offer".   Now, of course, this tactic doesn't mean you can turn everyone into your personal ATM machine... but it can help garner more clicks and ultimately more conversions. Be sure and listen to this episode for even more tactics. And you can sign up to Aff Playbook in minutes to see both Part 1 and Part 2 of this post.  (See what I did there?) We also covered a couple items from the News!  In the post by Sean Collins over at Affiliate Tip he announced that "ClickBank Launches ClickBank 3.0" and shares all the new program changes.  There is a lot of great new features and Shawn explained the best of them. Stan Schroeder over at Mashable shared "Twitter Rolls Out Its Facebook-Like Profile Redesign" sharing the similarities between the new profile pages on Twitter and Facebook.  It will most likely roll out to all the profiles in the near future, but for now only a handful of celebrities have it. You can see if David Twitter profile has changed by visiting: https://twitter.com/davidford13 Send him a friendly tweet letting him you heard him on the Daily Blogcast! @davidfor13
