Most states have begun implementing strategies for re-opening the economy. With New York recently reporting its lowest positive COVID numbers since the beginning of the pandemic, it’s clear social distancing and other expert protocol like mask wearing is working to slow the spread of the virus – especially in what was at one point the U.S. epicenter of the pandemic. However, things are taking a turn for the worse in states like Florida and Arizona, where COVID cases are skyrocketing. The question looms large for public health officials and policy leaders everywhere; did these states jump the gun on re-opening and pave the way for a second wave immediately following the first?
