A person gives power and control for it to affect their life! Drugs and alcohol don't have arms, legs, eyes, mouth, etc, but its affect, can mess you and your life up. Due to the power and control you give it, the trail it leaves in your life will and can alter you (mind, body, and soul). You allow it to wreak havoc in your relationships (with God, significant other, families, friends, and other people), on the job/careers, etc. When you succumb and give in to it, you have no power and control over it, you then allow it power and control to affect your life.
