show moreFollowing Blueprints and Deadweight, both of which propelled the band further into the metal abyss, Wage War are preparing to unleash a monster of an album that rhythm guitarist and clean vocalist Cody Quistad says the band are qquietly confident with.
"We really went for it with this one", he stressed, "and covered a lot of ground, explored some new stuff, pefected some old stuff and just went for it! If you're a heavy music fan hopefully it's right up your alley and if you're not a heavy music fan hopefully there's some somgs in there that are also right up your alley. We just tried to diversify and do something different and break us out of a mould that so readily surrounds bands in our scene. We're really excited about it and really proud".
When pressed on specifics of the different things they tried on Pressure, Quistad delves a bit deeper.
"Our band... we've done two records - the first one being Blueprint and the second Deadweight - and metalcore is a very formula based genre and we are so lucky to be part of such a great family of bands. We really just tried to do something different with things like the choruses and that kind of stuff but we also tried some different stuff musically, vocally, everything down to guitar tunings. We've got some songs that will appeal to all of the people who normally like our band, whether that's the you wanna punch your friend in the face for three minute songs - we've got those - or the songs you can cry to alone at midnight when you're driving around. We've got songs like that too so hopefully someone that doesn't normally listen to a band like us can get into it as well".
In the full interview Cody talks about the pressures referred to in the title, the lyrical contant and whether they offer a message of hope or despair, the releasing of two singles - 'Prison' and 'Me Against Myself' on the same day, the musical climate that gave birth to the band, why it took them five years to release their debut album, the two year album cycle since, how Wage War have changed musically over the years and the inside scoop on a possible Australian tour.
