The poet Ezra Pound in Liguria in 1966
“The door slowly opens and Ezra Pound appears, tall and very thin. He emerges, staring at us, a gaze impossible to define, looking somewhere beyond us, through us, to infinity. He seems like a being that lives in a closed world, where we cannot enter. I am almost afraid that the force lurking within him will suddenly be released. But instead Pound continues to ignore us, and then goes back into the house. He casts us one last glance and slowly closes the door, leaving it ajar, and we can sense that he is standing there, immobile, behind the door at the foot of the staircase. Pound spoke not a word, the meeting lasted just a few minutes, only our gazes crossed: we had met the shadow of a poet.” (Lisetta Carmi)
