Génesis 47: Vivimos aquí pero no somos de aquí.
Génesis 47:23-31:
Entonces José dijo al pueblo: —He aquí, hoy os he comprado, para el faraón, a ustedes y sus tierras. Aquí tienen semilla; siembren la tierra. Y sucederá que de los productos darán la quinta parte al faraón. Las cuatro partes serán de ustedes para sembrar las tierras, para su sustento, para los que están en sus casas y para que coman sus niños.
Ellos respondieron: —¡Nos has dado la vida! Hallemos gracia ante los ojos de nuestro señor y seremos siervos del faraón.
Entonces José instituyó como ley en la tierra de Egipto, hasta el día de hoy, que la quinta parte pertenece al faraón. Solamente la tierra de los sacerdotes no llegó a ser del faraón.
Habitó, pues, Israel en la tierra de Egipto, en la tierra de Gosén, y se establecieron en ella. Allí fueron fecundos y se multiplicaron mucho.
Jacob vivió en la tierra de Egipto diecisiete años; y los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, fueron ciento cuarenta y siete años. Cuando se acercó el día de la muerte de Israel, este llamó a su hijo José y le dijo: —Si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, pon tu mano debajo de mi muslo y muéstrame misericordia y verdad; por favor, no me sepultes en Egipto, sino que cuando repose con mis padres, me llevarás de Egipto y me sepultarás en el sepulcro de ellos.
José respondió: —Yo haré como tú dices.
Y él dijo: —¡Júramelo!
Él se lo juró. Entonces Israel se postró sobre la cabecera de la cama.
A pesar de que ellos estaban viviendo en Egipto por voluntad de Dios, Jacob tenía claro que esa no sería su tierra, la tierra prometida a Abraham. Es por eso que él tomó muy en serio esta convicción de no ser enterrado en Egipto. Ya notamos anteriormente que Abraham compró un terreno con una cueva para que fueran sepultados ahí sus seres queridos.
Jacob hizo prometer a José que no lo enterrara en Egipto. Esto hizo que José también hiciera el mismo juramento a sus descendientes. Siglos después, cuando Moisés liberó al pueblo de la esclavitud, llevaron los huesos de José para que se cumpliese su deseo.
Esta actitud de fuerte convicción es un gran ejemplo que debemos tomar ante el mindo donde vivimos porque no somos de aquí, estamos aquí de forma temporal.
Cuando entregamos nuestras vidas al Señor Jesucristo, nuestras vidas son transformadas, nos alejamos de las cosas que son dañinas, reconocemos las cosas que contaminan nuestra alma, y nuestra forma de vivir se va adaptando cada vez más a la Palabra de Dios. Pero esto no significa que debemos aislarnos de la sociedad. No debemos irnos a vivir a una cueva, en la montaña o construir nuestra propia ciudad de solo habitantes cristianos. Jesús dijo que fuéramos luz en las tinieblas y sal a este mundo.
Debemos impactar esta sociedad con el mensaje de vida eterna y salvación; llevar amor, paz, y esperanza a este mundo insensible, caótico y desenfrenado. Todo esto se debe hacer pero teniendo una convicción clara y firme de que este mundo pasará y que sus atracciones inmorales son las que destruyen el alma.
Por eso, vivamos en este mundo de forma justa y piadosa, sin poner la mirada en esta tierra sino en la eternidad; en los cielos nuevos y en la tierra nueva.
Hagamos la obra de Dios sin necesidad de perder el propósito y el objetivo de ser fieles al Señor en medio de un mundo imperfecto. Jesús nos indicó que nosotros vivimos en este mundo pero que no somos de este mundo en Juan 17:14-19: “Yo les he dado tu palabra, y el mundo los aborreció porque no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo. No ruego que los quites del mundo sino que los guardes del maligno. No son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo. Santifícalos en la verdad; tu palabra es verdad. Así como tú me enviaste al mundo, también yo los he enviado al mundo. Por ellos yo me santifico a mí mismo, para que ellos también sean santificados en la verdad.”
Por último, sigamos el consejo del apóstol Juan en 1 Juan 2:15-16: “No amen al mundo ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Si alguno ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él porque todo lo que hay en el mundo —los deseos de la carne, los deseos de los ojos y la soberbia de la vida— no proviene del Padre sino del mundo.”
Escudriñemos:
Usa el método VISUALÍZALO. Usa tu imaginación para ver y oír el juramento de Jacob a José, de no enterrarlo en Egipto.

Genesis 47:23-31:
Then Joseph said to the people, “Indeed I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Look, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. And it shall come to pass in the harvest that you shall give one-fifth to Pharaoh. Four-fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”
So they said, “You have saved our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.” And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, except for the land of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh’s.
So Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions there and grew and multiplied exceedingly. And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years. When the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Now if I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please do not bury me in Egypt, but let me lie with my fathers; you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place.”
And he said, “I will do as you have said.”
Then he said, “Swear to me.” And he swore to him. So Israel bowed himself on the head of the bed.
Although they were living in Egypt by God's will, Jacob was clear that this would not be his land, the land promised to Abraham. That is why he took very seriously this conviction of not being buried in Egypt. We noticed earlier that Abraham bought a piece of land with a cave for his loved ones to be buried there.
Jacob made Joseph promise not to bury him in Egypt. This caused Joseph to also swear the same oath to his descendants. Centuries later, when Moses freed the people from slavery, they brought Joseph's bones to fulfill his wish.
This attitude of strong conviction is a great example that we must take before the land where we live because we are not from here, we are here temporarily.
When we give our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, our lives are transformed, we stay away from the things that are harmful, we recognize the things that contaminate our soul, and our way of living adapts more and more to the Word of God. But this does not mean that we should isolate ourselves from society. We should not go live in a cave, in the mountains or build our own city of only Christian inhabitants. Jesus said to be light in the darkness and salt in this world.
We must impact this society with the message of eternal life and salvation; bring love, peace and hope to this callous, chaotic and unrestrained world. All this must be done but with a clear and firm conviction that this world will pass away and that its immoral attractions are what destroy the soul.
Therefore, let us live in this world in a fair and pious way, not looking at this earth but at eternity; in the new heavens and on the new earth.
Let us do God's work without losing the purpose and objective of being faithful to the Lord in the midst of an imperfect world. Jesus told us that we live in this world but we are not of this world in John 17:14-19: “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.”
Finally, let's follow the advice of the apostle Peter in 1 John 2:15-16: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”
Let's scrutinize:
Use the method called VISUALIZE IT. Use your imagination to see and hear Jacob's oath to Joseph not to bury him in Egypt.
