Traditional methods of medical practices have been changing since its origin. The evolution of modern medicines has developed a negative perception among some of the general public. There have been a lot of changes in the medical field since the early 1900’s. What makes it so different now than back then? Everything has been constantly changing. From society to economics—we as a race are constantly developing and changing policies and practices almost daily. So, is trusting our family doctors and other medical professionals, actually improving our health and quality of life?

It is for these reasons, Trista Polo and Dr. Raj Banerjee take the reins on this topic to provide insight on this delicate matter. As the evolution of modern medicines continue to change and evolve, Dr. Banerjee explains how the medical field has changed and adapted to cultural norms, and where the changes started.

We’ve all heard about ancient medical practices and holistic treatments from what feels like eons ago. Instead of natural treatments and therapeutic practices, today’s culture is plagued by money-making professional drug pushers. The worst thing about it is, we’re condoning these actions and contributing to the landslide in the American medical model of healthcare. Raj Banerjee aims his flashlight at the source and sheds light on how this development started and where it’ going.

Since the Beginning We All Learn

A doctor is perceived as someone specializing in everything. We expect them to literally know everything about everything, but that’s hardly the case anymore. The term is translated from Latin and invokes the meaning of one who teaches. A teacher as we know it. Doctors are supposed to offer wisdom with treatment, so that their patients can make healthy choices and sustain a better quality of life without always turning to medical treatments.

Conventional medicine with medical doctors has been around for roughly 100 years in comparison to Chinese medicine which has been practiced for 1000's of years. In the early 1900’s conventional medicine was big in the medical playing field. A Flexner report starts a new trend with its findings from data collected between 1915 to 1920. The Carnegie Corp. funded Abraham Flexner to gather data. He went around and conducted an inventory of all medical schools and hospitals over that five-year period that prescribed drugs. He brought his findings back to Carnegie and Rockefellers which in turn provided millions of dollars to funding the medical schools and hospitals to prescribe drugs.

As time progressed prescription medicines became more and more common as doctors where finding it easier and easier to give the patient medicine instead of helping them prevent the causes. Nowadays, doctors are really only trained to handle crisis situations and illnesses. A lot of times simple symptoms that favor something else go misdiagnosed and mistreated.

Trusting Health insurance to Kill You

Most people only visit the hospital when they are absolutely in dire need of medical attention. That’s why we pay for health insurance right? It’s almost like a way of gambling. You’re gambling that one day you are get become extremely ill. And in most cases it’ll be your own fault. Minor aches and sicknesses are brushed off to the side with the thought of, “If it gets worse I’ll go to the doctor,” instead of fixing the issue.

Look at some facts. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, the third leading cause of death is from direct treatments from medical doctors. About 15,000 Medicare patients are killed every month by MD treatments. The health insurance you’ve been paying for is your gamble on thinking that the doctor will just cure you of whatever you have, and the insurance company will help pay the bill. Big chance that something can go wrong and you could wind up paying the ultimate price.

Trista Polo and Dr. Raj Banerjee delve even deeper as they go more in-depth on these topics during the podcast:
- How the medical curriculum is aimed toward producing drug pushers?
- Why relying on your insurance may cost you your life?
- Explains the chronological path of the evolution of modern medicines.
- Alternatives to consider before going to the doctor.
