What can you share with your child that doesn't exist in the marketplace today? The value of vintage is alive, not only by what you purchase, but by what is felt within the heart. However, if your child is schooling with a device, then I believe our children are spending over 10-11 hours or more on digital devices. And that's scary, right? But if that is the fact, then that is what we need to understand, not that we like it. But we need to understand it most definitely. Then it got me thinking. If my child wasn't on a digital device, what could I share with him/her that doesn't exist in the marketplace now, meaning on digital devices? Now I know computers have come a long way, but the old-fashion girl in me loves to bring real life to all senses. And what I mean by that is I want my children and grandchildren to experience stuff that I did, not through a screen, but with their five senses. That's how life comes alive. That's what creates memories that are indelible. So understand, I truly believe the value in vintage exists not because of the "money" aspect, but primarily in regards to what it means passed on through the generations. Vintage denotes something of high quality, especially something from the past or characteristic of the best period of a person's work. You could stick to that definition. But I would like to add, vintage is something from the past that is not readily manufactured and poses a challenge in reproducing the item or event; it's something that touches the heart. Vintage could be 

• an experience
• a product (toy, book, 8-track, CD)
• a family tradition
• a form of transportation (car, bicycle, motorcycle)
• a collection of photos
• a trade/hobby

Share a part of you that's not in the marketplace! The K.I.S.S. ~ Share a part of you! This seems a little strange, doesn't it?  Yet, I don't want you caught up in whether or not it seems strange. Think about the value of vintage and how that can add value to your child's life. Because if I can be frank, technology isn't everything. We need the hands-on effect to encompass all the senses opening up the mind for greater expansion and re-imagination. And when that happens, love grows strengthening the family more. The relationships deepen. As a parent, that's really what matters.

1. Find something from your past.
2. Share a story with your child.
3. Re-create a new memory with it.

For example: Take Grandma's cookie recipe. It's not about the recipe as much as it is sharing the story about cooking with your grandma and what that meant to you. Now you get to share it with your child and tell the stories. So now your child is learning about great-grandma and what happened back in the olden days. You get to make what matters come to life. And that keeps memories alive and thriving especially for those loved ones you lost too soon. Nowadays, we need to think outside the box to fight what's in the box. Don't limit yourself by what you see today. Go after the memories and bring to life those stories that still need to be passed down generation after generation.
