In the second vision of John, we focus on the scroll and its importance in the coronation service of Jesus as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. A scroll in that time was what a sceptre is to us today. When John saw the scroll, he wept because it seemed no one in Heaven was worthy to take it and break its seals. This meant no one could rule the universe and it would spiral into utter destruction! Thankfully, the lamb was worthy to take the scroll! This lamb is none other than Jesus. By breaking each seal, Jesus reminds us that He has the right to sit on the throne and rule the universe. One day, this same Jesus will return to take us home.
