Sheila Wilson guest Jone, a registered nurse who has been a psychiatric nurse for 44 years. They spoke about the mental health issues and the fact that so much more is happening in the world today. It is alleged corporations want all the beds filled all the time, profits over patients? However, staffing is an issue. Nurses are leaving in numbers today; they are burned out and frustrated. Being a psychiatric nurse is a specialty. Like many other fields in nursing the coronary care unit, intensive care unit, etc. you can’t learn it in a week or 2 months. Just learning how the patient acts with their behaviors takes time. Is the patient pacing? or not eating? Yelling, talking to himself/herself or to a person that is not there.
