This week I am joined by
Dr Eric Helms. Eric has competed in a range of strength sports at a high level and has a wealth of 'hands-on' experience coaching strength athletes. On top of this practical expertise, he is a top-notch exercise scientist with many publications to his name.
I have known Eric for over a decade, one of my early memories is sharing a warm-up platform at the 2013 Commonwealth and Oceania Powerlifting Championships in Auckland. We also completed our PhDs at a similar time and I had the privilege of graduating alongside Dr Helms in 2017.
In this episode, we chat about Eric's background in strength sports - as an athlete and coach - and his pathway to his current roles, where he is a man of many talents. After this we jump into a discussion focused on concurrent training - what it is, whether we should be scared of it, and how we can practically mitigate some of the potential impacts.
