Dealerships must invest in infrastructure aka "profit centres" especially with an unstable new car market. While Most regions across the world understand this philosophy, not so much in North America with consistent competition with a growing pre owned and used car market. This gives way to cheaper alternatives in mechanic shops, garages and aftermarket parts stores.
