Many women were not brought up from childhood to speak up for themselves. Instead, it was be seen and not heard. There's also the idea that they need to be perfect and when they are not - which is the majority of the time - it effects their self-esteem and lowers their self-confidence even more. Women, for the most part, were taught to accept the abuse - in whatever way that it showed up - physical, mental, emotional, being over worked and being taken advantage of.
