This week special Guest Kalpana Kanthan

My name means imagination in Sanskrit, and yet, I never imagined
while growing up in India that I would teach yoga in New York City one
day! I am a staunch believer in the power of a deep mind-body
connection for embodied transformation and well-being, and have
practiced various forms of bodywork and energy healing, such as
Iyengar Yoga, pranayama, Reiki, Dahn Yoga, and Pilates, for over 20
years. I am now training to become a certified hypnotherapist.
I am a certified instructor in Naam and Kundalini Yoga, both of which
use pranayama (yogic breathwork), meditation, asanas (physical
poses), mantras (sound currents), and mudras (hand locks) to
invigorate the body, balance the mind, and rejuvenate the spirit for
greater productivity, increased self-confidence, and personal peace.
I have taught at the Naam Yoga studio on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and lead weekly sessions at
Morningside Retirement & Health Services to a devoted cohort of inspiring seniors. Through 2020, I
taught biweekly classes at Columbia Business School—where I work full-time—to address the emotional
and mental health strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. I offer tutorials for COVID-19 survivors to
help increase lung capacity, restore physical strength, and sustain emotional confidence beyond the
recovery period.
Transform & Thrive Thursdays
I am dedicated to sharing proven yogic traditions with integrity and humility for the greatest impact. My
classes are designed as a physical-emotional-spiritual workout combining the Naam and Kundalini Yoga
traditions. I coach students to work with their breath, spine, and subtle body so as to tap into their
internal power for self-awareness and transformative healing.
Conscious breathwork triggers the parasympathetic nervous system to dissolve anxiety, release stress,
and lighten the spirit, allowing us to stay energized, calm, and centered while awake—and deeply relaxed
during sleep. From this safe space of clarity and serene strength, we are able to engage with life’s
pressures and challenges with mindful responsiveness, not impulsive reactiveness. Through sustained
practice, we are able to push through daily challenges with grace, courage, and positivity.
Classes are 75 minutes long and are held each Thursday from 5 to 6:15pm ET via Zoom.
To encourage students to develop their home practice to reap the benefits of the class beyond its
Thursday slot, I offer its recording, which can be accessed for a full week. This allows interested students
to deepen their discipline and continue to extract health benefits from the practice on their terms.
The drop-in rate for Zoom group classes is $20. For ongoing students, I am happy to offer a 10-class pack
for $150 usable over 6 months. The recording is available for 7 days in all cases.
Everyone holds power in their navel center, waiting to be awakened. Everyone breathes. All are welcome!
Please email me at Kalpana@KalpanaKanthan.com to set up a phone consultation if you have any questions about my classes and how they could serve you as this point in your life.
