23 SEP 2024 · Today on Shaping Freedom, we are welcoming an old friend and previous guest, Aaron Robinson. As the founder of Opening Presence, which in his words, is the all-terrain vehicle for your healing journey. Aaron is in a unique position having worked in both the practical and spiritual side of healing ourselves and others. Together we are going to reflect on our emotional struggles, exploring the feelings of confusion, stress, and grief that surfaced when you least expected it to, and how we reach out for support.
This episode explores how we can curate a space where we can show true vulnerability and show true care to our spirits, and the healing power of somatic breathwork. Tune in for a powerful conversation on grief, community, and the path to authenticity, while embracing the beauty of our limitations without judgment.

16 SEP 2024 · Today on Shaping Freedom, we get the opportunity to talk to the third member of The Be Greater Collective Jasmine Harper. As you would have heard from our last episode with Be Greater Than, this collective is reimaging what mental and social wellness means for a broader audience.
As for Jasmine, we are going to look deeper into what it means to apply the lessons taught at Be Greater Than in a more practical way. Jasmine is going to teach us how she manages burnout as an artist, professional, and mom. This is Shaping freedom.

10 SEP 2024 · Welcome to Shaping Freedom the show where we aim to give you actionable insight into better showing up for yourself and your community. Striving to be the best version of yourself has been one of the golden rules of life. However, like most things in life, this rule is much easier said than done. So how can we be greater than the stresses, anxieties, and toxicity that fill our modern world?
To answer this question I am sitting down with founders of the wellness brand Be Greater Than, Ashley Everett and Randy C. Bonds. We are going to talk about how their brand has been helping various people and communities, what makes someone be greater than their former self, and how to be kinder to yourself.

3 SEP 2024 · Welcome to Shaping Freedom, I’m your host Lisane Basquiat. A question that we all need to be asking is how we can find the balance in the passion and purpose that drives us all. How do we find true fulfillment in all aspects of our lives? Today we are welcoming Robert Young, a legacy filmmaker, host of the Bright and Shining Podcast, and founder of R7 Holdings to explore this question. Together we are going to reexamine the intersections of creativity, mental wellness, and passion in our professions and social connections. Robert is going to act as our guide and mentor through not only his journey of social healing and passion but also on how we can recharge our spirits and creativity.

27 AUG 2024 · Today, on Shaping Freedom, I sit down with author, speaker, mother, and someone so full of love and wisdom, Abby Kamen. Coming hot off the release of her new book Generation We, we discuss how trauma can affect us all. While not all trauma may be created equal, we are all equal in the baggage that we carry in the aftermath of our pasts.
In this powerful episode, we discuss how reexamining the relationship with our trauma can help us to reconnect with a kinder and more forgiving version of ourselves, how her son’s challenges in finding his place in the world helped her to redefine what it means to be human and actually taking the time to feel the grief we all experience.

20 AUG 2024 · Today, on Shaping Freedom, I have the honor of welcoming an incredible athlete, NLP practitioner, and personal friend, Chukky Okobi. Chukky isn’t your typical mental and spiritual guide, at least not on the surface.
Chukky started his career as an NFL player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but after his time in the professional sports world, he felt that his own personal life was lacking a sense of direction and clarity.
This is where he discovered the power of neuro-linguistic programming, how to restructure the ways that we talk with ourselves, and how we define ourselves. Together we will sit down with Chukky to explore his life after the NFL, what he discovered about spiritualism, how we think about our self-identity, and how to rethink our lives after our careers change.

8 AUG 2024 · Today on Shaping Freedom, we ask what it means to support creators as they step into the world of business. For too long, artists and creatives have found themselves left out of the world of business acumen, including the marketing and the finances around their work.
Enter Ian Davis, Founder of Age of the Creative. Davis founded his consultancy with the mission of equipping and empowering the artist and creative community with the resources to expand and to be their highest and best selves. In this episode, we discuss what it means to be a creator in the business world and how we can find better ways to support the creative community, so that they can not only produce their work authentically, but also find tangible success.

1 AUG 2024 · Welcome to Shaping Freedom, I’m your host Lisane Basquiat. When you think of hip-hop, a common image is that of a “hard” man who is strong, stoic, and above all else, perfect. However, we both know this isn’t possible. Men struggle with the same mental health challenges we all struggle with.
Today, I sit down with Shanti Das founder of Silence the Shame, a mental health foundation. As more famous artists open up about the challenges everyone faces without prejudice the more people can access the help they need.
After tragedy struck Shanti’s personal life, her public life became one of health and healing. She will dive into how this tragedy has guided her, how her work within the hip-hop community has bled out into wide-reaching groups, and how it’s time that men finally talk about their feelings in a more honest and real way.

18 JUL 2024 · In this episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Raquel Martin, a licensed clinical psychologist and professor at Tennessee State University and Host of the “Mind Ya Mental Podcast,” Dr. Martin's work extends beyond academia and what drew me to a conversation with her is that she openly states that she believes deeply in the power of black mental wealth, emphasizing its role in legacy building and longevity.
We talk about Dr. Martin's journey and her understanding of Black mental wealth. It is important to recognize our values and boundaries and the power of music on mental health and the community, as well as discuss where to get the best tools to build a better Black future.
