    5 APR 2018 · This week we interviewed Peter Rodriguez, a member of the Southwest Center's Board and Vice Chairman at the Joshua Tree Feeding Program, which provides food bank services to HIV-positive individuals in Phoenix. Peter tells us about how he became involved in the HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ communities in New York after his diagnosis with GRID (gay-related immunodeficiency, an early term for AIDS) in 1982 at the age of 17. Peter shares his experience as a long-term survivor who has advocated tirelessly for HIV-positive individuals and the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to his work at Joshua Tree and the Southwest Center, Peter volunteers his time each year to organize the annual Phoenix AIDS Candlelight Vigil.

Rose has 40 years experience in community advocacy, including the last ten years she's spent working in HIV. She talks to us about who Ryan White was, what Ryan White programs do, and what people across Arizona are doing to work to end the HIV epidemic in the state. Rose also reflects on her career and what drives her to make a difference.

Our hosts also talk about why we created a podcast, what it's like to work at the Southwest Center, and how being part of the community is a rewarding part of each of their lives.

    7 MAR 2018 · This week, in honor of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (March 10), HB and Lisa talk with Barb, who found out she, her 3-month old son, and her husband had AIDS in 1993. Upon hearing from her doctor that she likely had two years to live, she promptly said "no, you're wrong", and started working as an HIV/AIDS activist. We have an emotional conversation about her and her family's early struggles with HIV/AIDS, how she honors her son Logan's legacy today by educating youth about HIV, and how she has empowered herself and others to maintain a positive outlook and healthy life.
