Outspoken fashion designer and activist Barbaros Şansal told Ahval’s John Lubbock that he decided to move to Cyprus because he could not guarantee the safety of his life and property in Turkey. Şansal previously spent 3 months in jail in Turkey for a social media post criticising the Turkish government and society.
British-Armenian historian Ara Sarafian says Turkish state historians refuse to engage in a dialogue about Armenian Genocide evidence. Sarafian says he would be happy to engage in a dialogue with Turkish historians about the evidence for the genocide in Ottoman archives. However, he noted that in the past, historians who deny the genocide have refused to make documents available for study.
Ahval’s John Lubbock talked to Turkish academic Axel Çorlu about Turkey’s progress in domestic military production for the Made in Turkey podcast. Lubbock and Çorlu looked at how much progress Turkey has made in military production, and what factors are driving this effort.
Lubbock discussed the Carnegie Endowment’s recent report into the Turkish military industry, and discussed whether recent improvements were as impressive as the Turkish government’s PR suggests with Çorlu.
