The "American Adventure" radio show was a historical program presented by the University of North Carolina. It explored the lives and characteristics of significant American figures throughout the nation's history. Here's a breakdown:

• About the Show: The program aimed to be "a study of man in the new world, of his values and characteristics through the years, who he is, what he believes and lives by." It covered various historical events and individuals, from the legend of Johnny Appleseed and African American soldiers during WWI to Civil War stories and figures like Thomas Jefferson.
• History: While three series were created, only one was broadcast outside of the University of North Carolina's student radio station, airing between 1955 and 1956. The entire production was performed at the university.
• Writers and Directors: The series was written by John M. Ehle and directed by John S. Clayton.
• Episodes: Episodes explored diverse topics, such as "King With Crown," "Hearth Fire," "Builders on the River," "The Rat on Lincoln Avenue," "Grenade," and "Grandfather Jefferson." Some episodes are available as part of "GSMC Classics: American Adventure."
