Derek P. Gilbert hosts A View From the Bunker. He also hosts SkyWatchTV, a Christian television program that airs on several national networks, and co-hosts SciFriday, a weekly television program that looks at science news with his wife, author and analyst Sharon K. Gilbert.
He formerly hosted The Drive, the #1 rated afternoon talk radio program in mid-Missouri, and launched P.I.D. Radio with Sharon in early 2005, making it one of the first podcasts on the Internet.
He’s a Christian, a husband and father, and an author. He’s in his early 50s, prefers glasses to contacts, and sings barbershop, an a capella style of distinctly American music. He most recently hit the high notes for RingTime, a barbershop quartet from Coles County, Illinois.
In the years since earning his degree in Economics, Derek has worked as a Top 40 radio disc jockey (he was once world famous in Peoria), a real estate salesman, the manager of a tuxedo shop, and a salesman of steel found in machines, buildings, power plants, and oil rigs all over the world.

22 APR 2024 · THE PSALMS are often polemics directed at the gods of the pagan nations around Israel. Case in point is the subject of this month’s Iron and Myth roundtable, Psalm 29. Dr. Judd Burton (www.BurtonBeyond.net), author of Interview With the Giant, Brian Godawa (www.Godawa.com), best-selling author of the new novel Cruel Logic, and Doug Van Dorn (www.douglasvandorn.com), author of Giants: Sons of the Gods, discuss Psalm 29 and its interpretation from a divine counsel perspective. We explore the translation of the Hebrew phrase bene elim as “sons of God” and its connection to the divine council (Psalm 82:1). We also discuss the similarities between Psalm 29 and Canaanite poetry about Baal, suggesting that the psalm may be a subversive polemic against Baal worship. We also highlight the geographical references in the psalm and their significance in relation to the storm-god language. It’s important to recognize these similarities and understand the cultural context of the biblical world. Not only did the Hebrew prophets and psalmists take direct aim at the gods of their pagan neighbors, their writings reveal Christ in the Old Testament.

Obviously, the Chaldeans of Nebuchadnezzar’s court couldn’t comply with the king’s demand. They were on the verge of being killed when one remembered the Judean named Daniel. Through a revelation of God, Daniel was able to reveal the dream and its interpretation, but that’s led to 2,500 years of debate over just what the interpretation actually means. Derek P. Gilbert hosts A View From the Bunker. He also hosts SkyWatchTV, a Christian television program that airs on several national networks, and co-hosts SciFriday, a weekly television program that looks at science news with his wife, author and analyst Sharon K. Gilbert.
He formerly hosted The Drive, the #1 rated afternoon talk radio program in mid-Missouri, and launched P.I.D. Radio with Sharon in early 2005, making it one of the first podcasts on the Internet.
He’s a Christian, a husband and father, and an author. He’s in his early 50s, prefers glasses to contacts, and sings barbershop, an a capella style of distinctly American music. He most recently hit the high notes for RingTime, a barbershop quartet from Coles County, Illinois.
In the years since earning his degree in Economics, Derek has worked as a Top 40 radio disc jockey (he was once world famous in Peoria), a real estate salesman, the manager of a tuxedo shop, and a salesman of steel found in machines, buildings, power plants, and oil rigs all over the world.
Derek has written two novels, Iron Dragons and The God Conspiracy. You can find out more about them at Derek’s personal website. He’s also a contributing author to the non-fiction books When Once We Were a Nation, Blood on the Altar, I Predict: What 12 Global Experts Believe You Will See by 2025, and God’s Ghostbusters.
Born in Chicago, just a long home run from Wrigley Field, Derek’s radio career took him from Peoria and Chicago in the Midwest, to Philadelphia out east, and then south to Little Rock before finally bringing him back to the Midwest.
Derek’s interests include reading, Christian apologetics, rooting for the Cubs, unraveling conspiracy theories, and scratching the chief of Homeyard Security, Sam T. Dachshund.
Derek has always been fascinated by the way things work and how things got to be the way they are. It was his study of evidence for the authenticity of the New Testament documents that awakened him to the battle raging around us.
It is this battle that inspires him.
