Following their recent signing to Napalm Records, German metalcore outfit Setyoursails have wasted no time in announcing their second album, and debut for the label, Nightfall.
Blending a fresh arrangement of metalcore, death, classic hardcore and melodic undertones, Setyoursails are carving their own niche in the metal realm, largely on the back of the mesmerizing and ferocious vocal prowess of frontwoman Jules Mitch.
Effortlessly switching between harmonious cleans and aggressive harsh tones, Mitch is but one component of this talented outfit who have left nothing on the bench with their new album.
Featuring guest performances from Annisokay frontman Rudi Schwarzer, Andy Doerner of metalcore veterans Caliban and Mike Perez from No Bragging Rights, Setyoursails are young, enraged and ready to stake their claim in the upper echelons of metal.
Mitch spoke with HEAVY earlier this week to talk about Nightfall which comes out on January 21, 2022.
"It's a very heavy record,” Mitch began. “We've been working on it since 2020. We went in the studio in 2020 to record it and it's very, very dark, but also has some pop elements with deep and heavy lyrics."
Blending metal, hardcore, melodies and even lashings of pop doesn't sound on paper like it should work, but somehow Setyoursails manage to strike that balance.
"Honestly, we didn’t sit down and think about how this record was going to sound. We just sat down and started songwriting. I wrote songs by myself, and our guitarist wrote songs by himself, and I believe that's why there's such a mixture on the record because we have different influences. That's the main reason it's so diverse when it comes to sound."
In the full interview, Jules talks more about Nightfall, how it differs to their debut album Enough, finding the balance between genres, the guest vocalists on the album and why they were chosen, covering a Lady Gaga song, future plans and more.
