Today marks a unique episode, offering a different perspective on an event which we have previously covered. A couple of weeks ago, we had the privilege of hearing Skye Woodlands' remarkable account of her survival following a brutal 2018 attack. If you haven't caught that episode yet, I strongly encourage you to do so (Season 3, Episode 2). Joining us today is
Rick Walker, who is Skye's partner, and who played a pivotal role in her survival. To put it in simple terms, Skye would not be alive today if it wasn’t for Rick’s actions that night.
Rick and I chat about:
- What his life was like prior to the attack
- The attack, from his perspective (his initial thoughts & feelings when he heard the commotion outside of their Townsville home)
- The adrenaline he experienced (clarity, focus, speed and strength)
- His actions which contributed to Skye's survival
- Handling the emotional impact after witnessing a traumatic event
- The changes to their lives and how he manages day-to-day
- If the incident has changed his perspective on life and personal safety
- How he is moving forward - both personally and as a support system for Skye
- What he does to manage his mental and physical health
I would just like to give recognition to Rick's courage, bravery and ability to think and react/respond quickly in the face of a critical emergency. As the saying goes, "not all heroes wear capes".
I have the utmost respect for him and Skye and feel deeply honoured that they chose to share their incredible story on this podcast 🩵
