What did Jesus mean by a single eye? Matthew 6:19-24 (KJV): "If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light."
Sermon on the Mount Pt 23, hosted by Matt Hepner.

Matt picks up from King Josiah finding the lost book of the law, and why the kings of Israel were told to read Scripture "all the days of his life" (Deuteronomy 17:19). Josiah tore down the idols Solomon had allowed (2 Kings 23). That is a picture of rejecting "God plus" religion and keeping the eye single on God alone.

Then come spiritual warfare and "casting down imaginations" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 6:10-20), the eye gate, laying aside "every weight" while "looking unto Jesus" (Hebrews 12:1-2), and "all things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient" (1 Corinthians 6:12). Israel looked at the brazen serpent and lived (Numbers 21), and Jesus told Nicodemus the Son of Man must be lifted up (John 3:14). The study closes with the man born blind (John 9) and the eyes opened in the fall (Genesis 3:7).
