Marie Marvingt was the world’s first female fighter pilot, one of the only women to fight on the front lines of WWI disguised as a man, the inventor of the Air Ambulance, a world class athlete who set records in every sport she played, and so much more. She could be an inspiration to countless young women in a world that is increasingly empowering females…but hardly anyone knows her name.

Rosalie Maggio is the bestselling author of 22 books whose new biography, MARIE MARVINGT: Fiancée of Danger (McFarland & Company, June 2019), tells the story of one of the 20th century’s most remarkable women. Marvingt (1875-1963) set the world’s first women’s aviation records, won the only gold medal for outstanding performance in ALL sports, disguised herself as a man so she could be deployed in the trenches of WWI, invented metal skis, and it doesn’t stop there. Called, “the most incredible woman since Joan of Arc”, her exploits are so legendary that some dismiss them as a hoax. Maggio’s book explores her many accomplishments, and investigates the reasons she has been all but forgotten by history.
