Once was a 2007 musical drama directed by John Carney. It featured Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová of folk act the Swell Season in starring roles as two struggling musicians recording a record, and tensely working through mounting romantic feelings. Produced by the Irish Film Board on a shoestring budget, it was a considerable commercial and critical success, and received numerous film awards, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song, via the now iconic folk ballad "Falling Slowly".
