Born at Lahore, India, in the year 1925, Dr. Tangri graduated in metallurgy from Benares Hindu University in 1948 after receiving B.Sc. degree from Punjab University in 1944. After receiving an MS and Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the School of mines at Metallurgy, Rolla, Missouri, USA, he worked in various research laboratories in the USA, India, the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Canada. He retired as Research Director of the Metallurgical Sciences Laboratory of the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg in 1992. He is the recipient of several awards and honors from organizations and universities in India, the USA and Canada.

Along with being an active scientific researcher, he has been an avid painter. His works have been shown in India, Spain, Germany, and Canada, and are in private collections in Canada, the USA, Germany, India, Spain and Italy,

He now resides in Victoria, British Columbia, where he is an active member of the art community.
