Derek Bartholomaus is a member of the Independent Investigations Group (IIG). The IIG's mission is to investigate fringe science, paranormal and extraordinary claims from a rational, scientific viewpoint, and disseminate factual information about such inquiries to the public. Derek is on the IIG Steering Committee and he is the Lead Investigator into the claims of Billy Meier. Derek was assigned Lead Investigator status in 2003, after Michael Horn started challenging the IIG to "prove that Meier's UFO photos were a hoax". Derek has maintained steadfastly since 2003 that the IIG is not able to "prove" hoaxes of any kind. The IIG has asked Mr. Horn several times to provide more substantial, falsifiable and testable proofs of Meier's claims, but to date, he has refused to do so. The IIG website's section on Billy Meier was composed entirely of research accumulated by Derek from his comfortable armchair, where his cat, Pippin, has been known click a few keys from time to time. The IIG is an all-volunteer organization that meets on the third Saturday of every month at the Center For Inquiry-Los Angeles. Derek works professionally in the entertainment industry as a Post Production Producer on various television shows.
