Jim Starry sees himself as a different kind of entrepreneur. "I'm trying to make money to save the planet," he says. Starry has bought, sold and rented houses in Colorado, Nebraska and Illinois for three decades and used the profits and related interest income to fund an airport design business that he believes can solve two global problems. His revolutionary design aims to efficiently handle an expected huge increase in air travel and dramatically reduce air pollution. Thousands of airports will need to be expanded, or built, to handle the Federal Aviation Administration's projected 45% increase in flights by 2020. And the growth, government agencies say, will generate more pollution, already a serious airport problem.
