The government in the UK has taken on a dangerous level of new powers, it is a bit of a control freak. Mark and Pete discuss the dangers. In order to combat the disease, Boris Johnson’s government has taken on additional powers and responsibilities enabled by the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 and the new Coronavirus Act 2020. It has not used the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and the history of emergency powers in the UK helps to explain why that is the case.
