ok, went on a rabbit trail myself. Quils of the left wing of a goose where mostly used for writing. Because of the the way the feather bends it fits better in the hand. (for righthanded people, lefthanded would use feathers of the right wing) The amount of writing per dip wasn't that bad, around a dozen to two dozen words.

The word Yaakov in Hebrew (Jacob's name) means he'll follow - a pun about him following esaw in birth, it is also of the same "root" as the word "akev", ankle

You actually pronounced machpela correctly (I assume that's how you write it since I've only read it in Hebrew) machpela can mean multiplication or doubling depending on the context
