Yamas and Niyamas prepare us for spontaneous effortlessness. The stages of Samyama correspond to different stages of effort, with Samadhi being effortless. The desire for transcendence, Mumukshutvam or love for a higher ideal naturally brings Yamas and Niyamas. Verses: III.4, I.23
