International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held on 3rd December.

The consumer advice organisation the UK European Consumer Centre (UK ECC), which is part of the European Consumer Centres Network - ECC-Net, used the occasion to draw attention to the rights and problems of air passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

My first guest is Adam Mortimer, from UK ECC, and he talks about the EU regulation 1107/2006 which identifies rights of disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility when travelling by air.

My local airport is London Luton and it works in partnership with the Bedfordshire Disability Resource Centre (DRC) to ensure that passengers who require assistance are able to get around the airport and on/off the planes.

My second guest is Simon Daize. Simon is the Partnership Liaison Officer for DRC and the Northamptonshire Centre for Independent Living (CIL).

Simon talks about his own experience of flying, the partnership with Luton Airport and how proactive it is in planning facilities for all passengers.
