An informative interview with Dr. Natalie Beyeler, a practicing internal medicine doctor with 35 years of clinical experience on how to make those 15 minutes in the exam room count. Dr. Beyeler recounts her clinical observations practicing internal medicine in rural community hospitals, the lessons she’s learned on patient recovery, longevity, and how patients can partner with their providers to take their health into their own hands.
Internal medicine is a specialty where scientific knowledge and clinical expertise is used to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases that affect adults. Internists may continue their education to focus on diseases of the heart (cardiology) or other subspecialties, but every internal medicine physician has spent three of their seven years in medical school or post-graduate school on subjects that affect a broad range of medical problems rather than on one organ system.
