A conversation with Dr. Amanda Leibovitz, PhD, LMHCA, LPC, CMPC a licensed therapist and certified mental performance consultant with a strong calling to empower others with the knowledge, awareness, and skills needed to navigate life on their own terms. She also holds coaching certifications with USA Triathlon, USA Paratriathlon, and USA Cycling and has been coaching endurance athletes since 2012. Her unique blend of experience, education, and training allows her to integrate effective strategies for high performance with proven approaches to mental health counseling to emphasize clients’ personal strengths and values as important vehicles for change.
We talk about the recent and frequent descriptions of athletes and mental in the media and you’ll hear Dr. Leibovitz’s position on what she believes represents the full scope of helping athletes, above and beyond demands on time or questions of burnout.
We talk about the competitive drive of the athlete to compete and succeed and ways to ensure this drive doesn’t manifest itself in counter-productive anti-patterns in the life of the athlete.
We talk about social media and social influence. We spend some time on this one because I wanted to get Dr. Leibovitz’s professional opinion on a protocol for the athlete on dealing with the 800 pound gorilla of social influence, while driving their social media presence in a productive way.
Lastly we talk about her strategy at Epic Wellness + Performance and how coaches can build out their athlete psychology resources for their athletes.
