Common Core

Hello friends. Today we are discussing common core, what it is, how it affects us and what we can do about it.  Simply put, Common Core is a Federal Takeover of Education and it’s ultimate goal is to have all student follow the same national standards. This failed educational approach undermines educational quality and choice. And if you are wondering if it affects homeschoolers, homeschoolers will see it in curriculum, testing, and student data tracking.  But beyond how it affects us as homeschoolers, we should be concerned about what it does to our society, our culture and our country.  Today is part 1 of a two-part episode on common core.  We will be hearing from Matt and Ellen Gerwitz of the Educational Freedom Coalition and Honor of Kings curriculum.  They will be talking to us about Common Core.  Make sure you also tune into our next episode, #69, as we talk with Shane Vander Hart of CaffeinatedThoughts.com as he shares more about common core.

Matthew and Ellen Gerwitz are former homeschoolers who home educated their children from kindergarten through high school. Each of their three children is now grown and pursuing what God has put in their paths. During their years as homeschoolers, they served as leaders of a local homeschool group as well as leaders at the state level in New York. Matt and Ellen currently live in central Florida where they continue to be involved in homeschooling issues. For the past year they have been developing Honour of Kings, a new company devoted to creating Biblical homeschool curriculum. Matt is also self-employed as a freelance writer and public speaker.
