After two grueling, marathon games this week; one in Chi-Town between the Cubs and Yanks that went 18 and resulted in a Yankees win, and one in The City between the Giants and the Reds that ended in walk-off fashion in the 17th, the idea that extra innings are a product of a bygone era has been proffered by some baseballs analyst and the belief that a limit on extras should be set has also been put forth.
This week on Out of Left Field, Graham and I debate whether or not that limit should be set, reasons for setting it, and whether we can come to terms with a tie in baseball.
We also discuss the possibility that Tebow might be promoted to High A, Jeurys Familia’s surgery to remove an arterial clot in his throwing arm, the possible end of Ryan Howard’s career, and Derek Jeter’s heartfelt thank you to the people of New York prior to his jersey retirement ceremony on Mother’s Day.
Plus, our Defender of the Week where we choose a defensive player who has had an impact on his team, and Behind the Mask where we take a minute to delve into topics from an umpire’s point of view.
