Canines are not unlike the human species: they are often mistreated and hurt by the very people who were entrusted to care for them. Some are starved, others left in uninhabitable conditions to fend for themselves; still others are used for cruelty sports such as dog fighting. Whether physical or emotional, they bear the scars of their painful pasts and are fearful of those they encounter. Antisocial behaviors keep them safe from further harm. So it is with humans.
