Ever see those bush pilots on Youtube? Amazing! They only need like 10 to 20 feet to take off and land.

I didn't know that. With MS Flight Simulator I practiced landing a 747 on Meigs Field over and over again. The runway was only 3,900 feet long. I ended up in Lake Michigan about 99% of the time. I should fly a 747 backwards on the simulator and see what happens.

I had to do the stall exercise too. When they stall tested the first 747 it was discovered that they were very stable while falling backwards out of the sky. It almost crashed

Oh it had a starter, my instructor was just old school and insisted that I learn how to do it. Doing stalls wasn't required either, but my instructor had me do them. He told me to point the nose straight up. I told him that is crazy as the plane would fall from the sky. He said exactly and you are going to learn how to get out of it. Then I found myself in my first tail spin.

Did you have to hand start the engine by the instructor?

The little disk shaped petcock on the wing. If you pushed it up wrong the fuel would follow your arm down.
