One in five working-age people are currently "economically inactive", according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - that is, out of work and not looking for a job. Whilst the reasons vary, the consequences are potentially dire for the UK economy.

On Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson speaks to our Business correspondent Paul Kelso, who's been speaking to people in that group about why they've said no to work, and to Tony Wilson from the Institute for Employment Studies about the impact of so many unfilled job posts on the economy.

To add to your reasons why you think we are missing people from our workforce it's clear to me that in the public sector people have just had enough of being under paid over worked and under appreciated. People working alongside colleges with half the pensions but doing the same job maybe even more work than their counterparts. People leaving a job with no one to replace them then the remaining staff expected to take on that role as well for no more pay. This has led to people running out the door of workplaces at the very earliest opportunity as workplaces are not good for their health. I used to enjoy my job (fire service) and now I'm counting down the days to I can get out asap for the good of my health. My wife and her colleagues are the same story (nhs) as jobs are just unrealistic at the level of work / paperwork and responsibilities as no one is being replaced when others retire leaving who's left behind to do that work also. This is the real crisis and it's a ticking time bomb and these are the people who keep this country moving and sadly they are all of the same mindset now. The government need to wake up.
