Dan Carter struggled with severe dyslexia as a child, was functionally illiterate, lost his brother, was sexually abused, became a drug and alcohol addict, and was homeless for most of his late teens and 20s. At 31 his sister gave him an ultimatum - sober up or die, he entered rehab and began to rebuild his life.
