We should think of the Supreme One’s auspicious qualities and also of our own failings. To think of the Lord’s auspicious qualities makes sense. But why should a man think of his failings? Thinking of his failings will give a man the fear that if he does not correct himself then he will never be able to get out of samsara.
Thinking of the Lord’s qualities assures him that there is a way out of samsara. But we must trust Him. We must never wonder if He will push us back into samsara. We must not be proud when we acquire atma jnana, said Bhooma Venkatakrishnan, in a discourse.
We must keep a constant check on our conduct. A sensible person will fear that his flaws will keep him for eternity in samsara, but will also console himself that because of God’s grace such a possibility will be averted. He is the One who saves and we are the ones who place our liberation in danger — this is a thought that we must always have.
We must not blame the Lord for our misfortunes. Sometimes, a child that is playing falls down and not knowing that its mother is no way responsible for its fall, it shows its anger against its mother.
In the same way, in our ignorance, we think that God is responsible for our problems and burst out against Him. Blaming the Supreme One for our misfortunes, would be like a man who has fallen into a well blaming the man who comes to his rescue. The rescuer may get annoyed and just leave the man behind in the well.
Likewise, if we blame the Lord who is the only One who can liberate us, then He may give up on us, and then how can we ever attain liberation?---The Hindu Today
