We're back from a two-day break, and guess what? We're not on fire. Well, at least not literally. California has had the best weekend in COVID numbers in six months. But we're not out of the woods yet — more wind, more warnings, and more PSPSes are possible.

Thanks for that link, Tyson. I hate to say I've become a COVID junkie, but cruising statitics are one of the many things that keep me up way too late.

Thanks Edie! This is where I got the national data which shows the long, depressing plateau: https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2020/10/coronavirus-growth-in-western-countries-october-18-update/

And what happens when the rest of the country gets cold… And a little bit of outdoor freedom we have now gets confined… And some states have people eating in pubs and restaurants and bars… Yikes

My fear is that due to our collective temperament, cases and deaths will ebb and flow by region, but 2 deaths/million is our equilibrium.

Edie: I actually started tracking California vs. Texas on Covid in July. On July 19th, California was at 19 deaths/100K and Texas was at 13. They passed us per capita deaths on August 3rd. Now they're 17 higher than California at 59/100K.
