Every tool is extensible, from commercial closed source to freeware to open source. It simply becomes a question of how and where you hook into the system. This is why performance testing tools are built around general purpose computer languages. At the time a tool is designed and constructed it’s impossible to foresee all of the possible interfaces and applications it will be used to test. As a result, the ability to extend is critical capability of performance testing tools. This season of PerfBytes is formally supported by our sponsors Hewlett Packard Enterprise (www.hpe.com) and Flood.io (www.flood.io)! Thanks guys!

It felt like such a back but if let me keep working for a bit longer rather than being forced to wait for a dev fix.

I once had to extend a dated version of Visual Studio. The reason for it was: I had this benchmarking test that I ran to see how our image processor did its thing. Except in our test environment at that point we hadn't yet done the conversion to https / SSL and when we did initially we were using some kind of internal certificate which the tool done literally choked on. So I discovered I could write a plugin that would take over that cert check process and allow the testing to continue.
