This episode studies the Harrison Anti-Narcotic Act of 1914. The act was the first shot fired in the federal government's war on drugs, it was based on America's colonialist ambitions in the Philippines and the debate over the act had little to do with medical evidence or public safety. The Harrison Act forever influenced the doctor and pain patient interpersonal experience. In fact, after the passing of the bill... the medical community was immediately targeted.
