Last year a group of students at Reed College protested nearly every lecture of the campus’ year-long freshman humanities course. The students argued that the class is too white, male, and Eurocentric. They also say Reed needs to be more receptive to the needs of students of color. Earlier this fall, two classes were cancelled because of protests. Nigel Nicholson, Dean of Faculty, and Mary James, Dean for Institutional Diversity at Reed, join us.
