A trio of academic writers teamed up to concoct an elaborate hoax. Over the past year, they submitted papers to academic journals parodying what they call “grievance studies.” Some of the papers with titles such as “Human Reactions to Rape Culture and Queer Performativity at Urban Dog Parks in Portland, Oregon,” were accepted and published, despite the fact that they were not based on real academic research. PSU assistant professor Peter Boghossian and his colleagues James Lindsay and Helen Pluckrose describe themselves as “left-wing” but say they want to expose what they see as a problematic trend in the humanities.
