show moreThe End of Life Choice Bill is up for debate again today including whether to have a referendum, as called for by New Zealand First.
Police Minister Stuart Nash told Mike Hosking 68 per cent of his Napier electorate want him to vote for the bill, and 15 per cent are against it.
He expects in a referendum, a large number of the public would back the law.
"I would prefer it didn't go through a referendum, as I believe MPs have been given the mandate to represent their constituents."
But Nash says that's part and parcel of what's required to get New Zealand First's support.
National's Justice spokesperson Mark Mitchell told Mike Hosking that he will be voting for a referendum, as he wants New Zealander's to have the chance to vote on the bill themselves.
