A smoking researcher has come under scrutiny after it was revealed her research project is funded indirectly by the tobacco industry.
Dr Marewa Glover's secured $1.5 million from the US based Foundation for a Smoke-Free World. This foundation in turn is entirely funded by Philip Morris.
Two years ago, the World Health Organisation advised governments and the public health community not to partner with the foundation because of "clear conflicts of interest with the tobacco company".
However, Dr Glover told Heather du Plessis-Allan that she has nothing to do with tobacco companies and they have no influence over her research.
She says that the perception of it being a conflict of interest has been "deliberately created" because she disagrees with her critics.
Glover has come out as an opponent against banning smoking in cars, and wants the cost that will go towards the policy to be better used.
