The Police Commissioner doesn't expect to lose very many officers as a result of today's vaccine mandate.
Police and Defence Force staff have to get their first dose by January 17 and the second dose by March 1.
At the moment, up to 800 Police officers are unvaccinated.
Andrew Coster told Heather Du Plessis Allan they'll consider giving people leave without pay if they are still making their decision.
“Many of our people have served a long time in New Zealand Police, and they're vocationally engaged, so they're not going to want to walk away from that in a hurry.”
