2021 could be a record year for coal imports.
The government is expecting that 150,000 more tonnes of coal will be imported this year than last year. Last year well over a million tonnes in total were imported.
Most of the imported coal will be burned to keep your lights on, or possibly to charge up your new EV.
Chief Executive of Forest and Bird, Kevin Hague, spoke to Heather du Plessis-Allan about whether it's time to stop burning coal.
