“Behind the Mitten” is Michigan’s premiere travel radio show and Podcast, and since 2015 it has published more than 500 episodes. It is co-hosted by veteran journalist John Gonzalez and longtime chef & beer expert Amy Sherman. The show has been recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters as Best in Category.

Festival season is off and running across Michigan, and as the weather finally warms up, we look forward to the many incredible fairs and festivals that are back on this summer.

Season 5, Episode 18:
  • Nick Nerbonne, BTM's resident ski bunny, stops by to talk more than snow this time. He shares a few of his favorite legacy festivals, like the National Cherry Fest held each July in Traverse City. Nick also works for Pure Michigan, and he reminds us that our trips should always start at Michigan.org.
  • We love when someone's personal passion transforms into a festival that everyone can enjoy, and that is exactly what Erin Brains has done. She's a Lansing area foodie, who after moving to Michigan from the West Coast fell in love with our olive burgers. Guess what? She's throwing the first ever Olive Burger Festival at the Lansing Lugnuts stadium on June 24, and she stops by to tell us all about it. Learn more at lansingfoodies.com.
  • Two guys who really know festivals join us to complete the show. Mike Szukhent, from Michigan Festivals and Events, and John Schut, from Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibits both stop by and share a few of their favorite festivals from all over the state. Get more info from both of them: Mifairs.com and Michiganfun.com.
This show aired May 6-7, 2023.

BTM airs on radio stations across the state, and you can always find us as a podcast on your favorite streaming service.
